Understanding The Process
Unfortunately, cutting a hole in your existing glass door isn’t feasible due to its toughened nature, any attempt to cut a hole or opening within a toughened glass panel will cause it to shatter. In order to install a pet door into an existing glass sliding door or fixed panel we must replace the glass door panel entirely with a new one. This replacement glass panel will have the correct cut out completed prior to the toughening process, ensuring safety and integrity.
It is important to note that the Australian Standard requires the use of safety glass for all doors, door panels and side panels, Pet Doors in Glass will always utilize toughened glass for pet door installations, ensuring we not only comply with Australian Standard AS1288, but also prioritizing safety and quality in all our installations.
It’s essential to select a pet door designed explicitly for glass doors, as those found in local hardware stores may not be suitable due to variations in thickness. Furthermore, opting to purchase your own pet door doesn’t guarantee compatibility and may lead to additional expenses if the wrong product is chosen. We recommend relying on our expertise and procurement of materials at wholesale prices to ensure the right fit and value for your investment.
Note: Pet Doors in Glass do not install customer supplied pet doors; for us to provide warranty on the workmanship, product and to provide to you assurance the door must be supplied by one of our manufacturers.
When we remove older doors, it’s common for the rollers, locks, and mechanisms to
experience some shifting due to the constant wear over time. The movement and change in weight can cause rollers and other components to no longer line up. This isn’t a reflection of the glazier’s work but rather a natural consequence of age and usage.
Regular maintenance is recommended on rollers, locks and mechanisms, however if it has been missed in the last few years it may now appear after the reinstallation of a new glass panel that these require replacement. If the door rollers or locks are significantly worn, we typically have the most common types readily available in our vehicle for immediate replacement upon request at a discounted price.
However, if the tracks are extensively damaged, we may need to order specific replacements due to the variety of types available; the glazier will discuss with you on the day of final site measure and provide any recommendations.
Remembering we are a Glass Company and can assist with all of your glazing needs; to minimize costs and time, we encourage discussing any additional glass door or window needs during our initial visit, it is during this attendance we can look to your required or requested works and package / bundle up works with your pet door installation, allowing us to address potential replacements or repairs efficiently and at a cost saving to you!
Your satisfaction and convenience are our top priorities.
Luckily with the power of mobile phones and photos 99% of quotations can be completed without attending to site. Saving you time and disruption!
In order to receive an instantaneous quotation – a text message and photo as per the below is perfect:
Hi, Can I please get a quote for a Pet Door to be installed? I live in Piara Waters. My dog is a Kelpie and it will be installed on the sliding panel of my Laundry Door. The width of the glass panel is around 790 mm. Thank you Sue.
This information provided along with one photo, clearly showing the full patio door, the
aluminium framing and the installation location was all that was needed for us to provide
them a fixed price quotation.
On the very rare occasion that we are unable to quote (provide a price) through messages – we may offer to see your site in person to better understand your needs.
Once you’ve accepted the quotation provided; the first site visit is scheduled. At this 1st attendance we always complete the following:
Confirm the Glass Sizes for your Custom Toughened Glass Panel
Confirm the size of your Pet Door needed for your Pet
Confirm the Position of your Pet Door within the Panel – Left , Right or Middle
Take your Deposit Payment; a receipt is emailed to you for your records
Once an attendance has been completed the information is processed internally, your custom panel is ordered and your pet door assigned for your installation. You will receive updates through text messages; from ordering the panel to installation day!
We aim to have no more than 8-15 business days between the measure up and the installation – however there are times that the manufacturer and suppliers may delay this process, we will always inform you of delays when we become aware.
On the day of installation it is important to have the area cleared of any furniture, curtains tucked away and pets safely removed from the area. Your old panel will be removed and your new panel with the pet door will be installed.
Final Inspection will be carried out by the glazier and by you before the final payment is made; a receipt is emailed to you for your records immediately upon your payment.
Don’t forget to send through photos of your pets enjoying their new pet doors. We love to
see them.
Pet Door’s in Glass provide a 3 month workmanship warranty; this includes the pet door and the installation of the pet door. If the screws come undone, the flap breaks etc then this is covered for the 3 months following installation (not covered if accidental breakage or malicious damage is caused).
Due to the nature of the materials, we are unable to provide a warranty on the glass; glass does break and the causes can be unknown. A final inspection is completed by you and the glazier at the time of installation to ensure that both parties are happy with the works
completed and the materials installed.
We do not provide a warranty on materials or components that we have not replaced or
altered – ie: Door Rollers, Door Locks and Handles. If these are not being replaced at the
time of the glass replacement, then no warranty is offered on these components. We would always suggest if your rollers or door locks have not been replaced that these be completed at the time of the above works.
Here are some tips to help you choose the perfect size pet door for your furry friend:
Cut an opening to practice -
Start by grabbing a large, flat piece of cardboard.
Cut out a rectangular hole in the cardboard that matches the dimensions of the pet door you’re considering.
Tape the cardboard to your doorway, with patio doors being the best option.
Now, watch your pet as they walk through:
Check if the door is too low to the ground, causing your pet to crouch too much, we can raise it at installation.
Is it too narrow, leading to scratching or discomfort on their sides, we need to go wider.
Are they hitting their head as they go through, we need to go higher.
Adjust the cardboard as needed until both you and your pet are happy with the fit. Once you have reviewed the size see if it fits the “standard” sizing below or if you need to look at
custom options to best suit your pet and their individual requirements.
A couple of important notes:
If you have multiple dogs, finding the right size can be a bit of a balancing act. Remember,
as your pets get older, jumping and bending may become more challenging, so try to find a size that works for all of them.
Keep in mind that there are limits to how low a pet door can be installed into a panel. For
breeds like Dachshunds, Corgis, or Toy Breeds, you might need to consider using ramps on both sides of the door to accommodate the aluminium frame and ensure comfortable usage for your pet.

Note:
If your pet exceeds the sizes available, we can arrange to have a Custom Pet Door made, even with rounded bottoms to allow for those “low to the ground” dogs – bulldogs etc. These will be individually priced depending on your pet’s needs; it is important to note that there may be sizing limitations depending on the location of the installed pet door and manufacturing.
Company Policy:
At Pet Doors in Glass, we prioritize pet and human safety above all else. Therefore, even if the Australian standard doesn’t require it, we will always install Toughened Safety Glass panels to ensure the utmost safety for everyone involved; we will not waiver on this.
